I fell in love with Jessie’s music a few years ago through listening to her string quartet music. I was excited to learn this solo violin piece for a larger project highlighting compositions by black composers. If you wish to donate please check out www.freedommarchnyc.com. My hope is to create power through visibility, and to expand the canon. Learning this piece was challenging and gratifying and I hope that this piece becomes a regularly programmed concert piece and encore.
